GenAI Systems Engineer
About Bigspin
Our platform empowers teams to build AI systems that truly align with business goals—enabling domain experts to directly shape behavior through structured collaboration. Bigspin replaces fragile prompt engineering with modular, data-driven feedback loops that transform AI development into a more inclusive and reliable process.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a GenAI Systems Engineer. In this role, you’ll be focussed on applying advanced language model (LM) programming and optimization techniques to create robust, user-centered systems. You’ll be hands-on in building, evaluating, and deploying the LM-driven components that power our application, while working closely with developers, designers, and leadership to ensure our users can do their best work. While the role is primarily applied, it also offers opportunities to develop original LM programming and optimization techniques, with opportunities to publish on these topics and release open-source code. We are especially interested in developing novel techniques for optimizing LM programs efficiently and based on small datasets containing potentially conflicting signals.
What you'll build + own
- Design, implement, and integrate LM-based components into Bigspin’s collaborative GenAI platform.
- Build reliable evaluation pipelines and apply best practices for estimating AI systems performance.
- Develop innovative solutions for information retrieval and prompt/program optimization in applied settings.
- Work cross-functionally with AI developers, application engineers, designers, and leadership to deliver features that solve user problems holistically.
- Support creative approaches to connecting with Bigspin users and helping them succeed in their work.
- When applicable, contribute new methods for efficient LM programming and optimization, with the option to publish and release open-source tools.
What you'll bring
- Expert-level Python programming skills.
- Strong understanding of LM fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with information retrieval methods, especially neural IR models and solutions, agentic frameworks and techniques, and prompt optimization methods and late-stage fine-tuning approaches for LMs.
- Hands-on experience with the DSPy open-source programming library. (Ideal candidates will have done serious work in DSPy that they can share with us.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation best practices in AI.
- Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to collaborate across teams to develop an outstanding user experience.
Why join us?
- At Bigspin, you won’t just be building features—you’ll be helping define the future of AI products and how enterprises adopt them. This is a chance to shoulder real responsibility, have direct impact, and grow alongside the company.
- Competitive salary
- Generous equity: we believe in giving every teammate a real stake
- Collaborative, curious, and high-trust team culture
- Remote-first with Bay Area presence (preferred)
